Playbook / Search implementation
Make seasonal demand useful.
A practical sequence for planning, shipping and reviewing a seasonal search program. Start with one audience, one page family and one clear next action.
Before you begin
Bring your business objective, current URL inventory, available search and analytics data, content owners and publishing constraints. You can identify missing inputs without buying a new tool. An unavailable measurement remains unknown.
This is present-day operating guidance informed by historical experience. It is not a claim that every step was performed in the Skyscanner campaign, or that the same tactics will produce the same result today.
- 01
Define the decision
Name the audience, business objective, buying window and next action. Record the baseline and what would count as a useful result.
Output: one objective, an owner and a measurement definition.
- 02
Research the demand
Use available search history, customer questions and competitor pages to distinguish recurring demand from a short-lived spike. Keep estimates separate from first-party observations.
Output: a question map, dates and evidence gaps.
- 03
Plan the destinations
Map each intent to an existing or proposed page. Reuse useful evergreen destinations; avoid making a new page for every keyword variation. Decide how seasonal content connects to the core product.
Output: a page map with a purpose and next action for each URL.
- 04
Prepare content and connections
Assign sources, update owners and review dates. Plan titles, helpful copy, relevant internal links and the route into the product. Qualify time-sensitive offers and observations.
Output: content briefs and implementation tasks.
- 05
Check the launch
Test rendering, crawl access, indexability, canonicals, links, mobile reading and the intended action. Measure loading performance and document unresolved problems. Confirm the approved change reached the page.
Output: a release checklist and an inspectable verification record.
- 06
Watch and learn
Review search visibility, page engagement and reliable conversion measures separately. Compare equivalent windows, record competing explanations and choose what to keep, revise or stop.
Output: a post-event review and a prioritized backlog for the next season.

What this does—and does not—give you
A shared plan, clearer delivery responsibilities and a reviewable definition of done. It does not guarantee rankings, traffic, conversions or AI citations. Monthly third-party estimates cannot measure a holiday weekend’s actual business outcome.
