Search commentary tends to organize itself around announcements. The more useful question is what changed on the page—and what that changes for the brand trying to earn a place there.
Key figures in text
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| YouTube indexed presence change | +55% |
| X/Twitter indexed presence change | +5% |
| Reddit indexed presence change | −8% |
| Meta indexed presence change | −11% |
| Queries with an AI Overview, March 2 → March 31 | 13.2% → 18.0% |
Position is one part of the picture
A ranking report answers an important question: where does a page appear for a tracked query? It does not, on its own, describe the experience around that result. A buyer may also encounter an AI answer, a video, a community discussion or a tool.
In my March and May analyses, I examined the composition of search results alongside the usual volatility conversation. That distinction matters commercially. A team can keep optimizing the same page format while the surrounding experience moves in another direction.
Read the measures separately
The March graphic separates indexed platform presence from AI Overview coverage. Within the recorded panel, YouTube presence ended the month above its March 2 starting point, while Reddit and Meta ended below theirs. The AI Overview panel measures a different quantity: the share of queries showing that feature.
I would not collapse those readings into one visibility score. Their value is in the questions they help a team ask: which formats are present, which sources appear together, and where does our content offer something useful?
Translate the observation into a content decision
The answer is not to imitate every format that rises in a chart. Start with the customer’s task. Some questions need an explanation; others need a comparison, a calculation, a demonstration or a credible discussion.
That is where search analysis becomes implementation. A calculator needs an interface and inputs. A comparison needs maintained information. A demonstration needs a usable destination. The investment decision concerns the whole experience, not just the article brief.
A practical review for your own market
Use a consistent query set and observation window, then connect the findings to the pages your team can actually improve.
- Separate branded and non-brand questions, markets and relevant devices.
- Record result formats and cited destinations alongside rankings.
- Review what a visitor can accomplish on the destination page.
- Prioritize one useful experience and define how you will review it after release.
The opportunity is not simply to publish faster. It is to build the right kind of answer.
Source & measurement notes
Retained Quattr March 2026 graphic. Presence observations run through March 31; churn and overlap through March 30. Indexed presence, query percentages and overlap are distinct measures. The accompanying May 2 and March 25 posts develop the broader argument about composition versus headline volatility.
